summer
i wrote this a while ago, figured i might as well post it..
i haven't blogged in a while. but i did tweet a few days ago that i'm not sure how to blog about how content i am with life without sounding like i'm being extra, but i'll try it anyway.
i've been back home, Los Angeles, for a little over 2 weeks. and it has been an AMAZING summer already. i think this may be due to my mindset coming home though.
see, i'm not going to lie to you, i'm scared SHITLESS about leaving for Spain at the end of the summer. i'm already sad about what i'll be leaving behind. and as soon as i say that, i get the same response from everyone "but you're going to have sooo much fun!" yeah, i knowwww... buuuut you wouldn't understand unless you were me, and had the relationships i have with the people in my life...at least the ones i hold dear to my heart. i think my fear of being forgotten also comes into play with these worries. not that i need to be on everyones mind all the time..but no one enjoys being forgotten.
and as much as i am a fan of change, i've grown to be so in love with my life and the things and people that have made it what it is, i don't want it to change. i dont want to come back to things being 'different.' ...but it's inevitable. and more often than not, change is for the better. i read once, "if you're not nervous, you're not doing it right" -- well i know i'm 100% correct on going to Spain. i'm excited out of my MIND. but extremely nervous at the same time. don't worry, i'll get over it soon enough....
anyway, with all of this on my mind, i plan to live up every second of every day. make the memories i'll cherish forever. i don't have time to waste on pettiness or any ones drama. i refuse to let anyone or anything ruin my summer. now of course there are the inevitable disputes, awkward moments, uncomfortable silences...but all it takes is for one party to move forward from the situations and the other party only looks childish if they're holding a one-sided grudge. that plus working on not getting so attached...to things, ideas..people...(obviously that's easier said than done for some...)because the last thing i need to add to my agenda is trying to say goodbye to something i can't ..or worse, don't want to, come august...
Obama did say change was going to come.

the common cold (emphasis on common)
this may just be the words of a sick, delirious person, but as i was lying in bed, unable to sleep,
i thought to myself: my oh my, makensy, colds & stuffy noses are a lot like ......love.
you see, when you don't look out for yourself the way you should, or someone lies to you and tells you they're not sick when they really are, or youre just being careless about who you spend your time with.....you get sick/your heart breaks.
...'germs'/'unhappiness' begin to accumulate and congest your head, and you get delirious.
...makes it difficult to eat, sleep and breathe, and
...it keeps you from fully doing the things you want to do like going out and kigginit.
..but also
if you're laying on your back in bed, awake, because your nose is stuffy
and you cant fall asleep because you think you'll suffocate and die......
i find that when you roll over on your side... one of your nostrils will open. and you will be able to breathe again. even if just slightly. it may not be exactly the same as when you're not sick, but God makes a way for you to keep pushing on/breathing. it is but merely a bump in the road. the common cold.
you blow your nose and eventually it will drain out and clear up. it may not be over night, but before you know it, you'll be back to the old you.
it's funny how people will take their health for granted..drinkin after whoever, thinking they're the exception, that they can't catch the bug.....that is, until they get sick. that sickness that changes their life. the sickness that makes them be extra careful about who they share their drinks with...if they're even still down to try sharing drinks anymore..because you know, sometimes it bes like that.
but remember! we all know that after a cold, your immune system only gets stronger!
just when you feel there's no hope..no getting better..death is creeping up on you...
one door/nostril opens. and *siiiigh* you can breathe.
lmao hahaha..that was fun

social networking sights
yes i spelled sights like that on purpose for those who think my blog is one big typo....
there's all this "new" rave about Twitter. everyone has one. and when i say everyone, i don't mean everyone. Twitter is for people who not only have stuff to say, but want people to hear it and respond to it, and get their messages passed along, and want to be recommended to be heard...etc etc. It is for promoting - promoting thoughts, ideas, events, music, your followers..anything..everything - that's the overall intended purpose.
i'm saying this not to convince you to get a twitter for those who don't already have one. (odds are, if you're reading this you either have a twitter or had a twitter .. because it's 'micro-blogging' and consistent bloggers are the type of people who like to be heard (/read)......or you don't have one because you simply feel strongly against it for your own valid reasons.)..but im speaking on this because i've noticed a lot of people on twitter "*smfh*" at people trying to "get attention." so i'm just going to come out and say it: the well known fact of twitter is that it's really only fun if you have followers, not the spam ones because they are LAME, but people who respond to your tweets and show interest in what you have to say. so yes, there are going to be people who aim to "get attention" via responses. everyone loves to receive a good RT (re-tweet) or @reply. otherwise there'd be no point in sharing your thoughts publicly for people to know. and this is just me keeping it real - all the consistent tweeters are attention seekers. i admit to it too. BUT if you're not able to handle that sort of thing, where people talk or share "too much," or where their intentions are getting attention there are options:
1. get off of twitter
2. stop following those people you dont like hearing from.
i'm not saying everyone is the kind of tweeter that needs constant responses. i don't feel that i am (but clearly, that opinion can differ depending on who's judging me). i share my thoughts because i've always been pro-sharing thoughts. i feel, in a sense, refreshed just from releasing my thoughts into "the universe"..that's why i love my blog. twitter for me serves as a more convenient release where i can say whatever i want WHENEVER i want (thank you Über Twitter :)). so i'll tell you now. i tweet a lot about a lot. i'm random, funny, emotional, observant. i'm me......but at your own convenience. lol
now, i have learned that you can't look down on people for not acting the way you might when presented with a crowd. i've definitely blogged, vented and complained about it before but the reality is people are different and we, ourselves, are not perfect. everyone acts differently because people are raised to act differently. and i admit, for me, sometimes people go a little too far with some of the things they share. (i personally am not a fan of the excessive profanity ...especially the using of the "b-word"...and especially in direct referencing terms...but that's just me). i've found myself un-following a lot of people who i thought i'd be interested in hearing from, only to learn i don't really agree with what they say or the way they go about sharing it. but it's nothing personal, honestly, it's not. it's not something i hold against them as a person. but i'm aware that there are some people who tweet about things that can get to me, or about stuff i'd be better off not reading, things that have the power to upset me. i am human. sometimes words affect me. but to each their own. and that's just it. to each their own. sharing thoughts is the purpose of twitter and technically there are no rules (except the 140 character limit). there's nothing that says how many times is considered socially acceptable to update your status, or that you have to respond to every @reply you get, or what topics you can or cannot speak on..it is a public forum where freedom of speech is celebrated. so celebrate it. being negatively affected by something you can't control is entirely too tiring.
so i say this, not to sound like i'm above anyone, i have just learned the hard way that not everyones thoughts are for me to know. and if you cannot handle what i (and i include myself because i'm aware that i'm not the perfect tweeter) , or anyone else has to tweet, then stop tuning into those lives. but if you do choose to subscribe to those minds, then accept what all comes with that territory. same goes for blogs. mmm..basically,
if you're going to be on a social site, and 'follow' people, you should accept everything that comes along with that. the exposure you receive is the exposure you ask for. freedom of speech and all that goodness.
we are definitely a people who are not afraid to speak our minds. i'm sure you'd like it if we didn't hold it against you either... :)
if you can't handle the heat
get out of the kitchen.

'friend zones' (any advice?)
apparently i have this horrible-horrible habit.
i seem to always end up with guys that alllllll the ladies love ... "ladies men."
the crazy part is though, it's more than just their looks, it's their personalities that make them ladies' men...so it's not even one of those kind of crushes that ladies get that go away once you get to know them...no...they just get stronger with time...smh.
now, the first thing that comes to mind is, why am i complaining? i have a guy who all these ladies want...but he wants me and only me. yeah, it's a beautiful thing to have something in such high demand, but after a while, watching beezies trying to get at mine gets old...and annoying...and frustrating. like, "i KNOW you know he's with me, what are you doing...?"
FYI: i'm sure the same goes for guys, but girls can always tell when a girl likes their man.
the issue for me is that, these situations we find ourselves in, don't usually start off as anything more than friendships. you know, the occasional "heeey!", aim conversations...maybe a few "what's going on tonight?" texts here and there...but when people get bored, and the conversations progress and grow longer..and deeper..and more frequent, friends realize "hey, i like talking to him/her a lot. i like the things he/she has to say...hey, maybe i like him/her!"...then that's when situations get complicated...for everyone involved. and people steadily start to cross that friendship line and begin to throw out comments that opposite sex friends don't normally say to each other......lol what? did you think i didnt know?
so, when you're in a relationship, and you have a someone you really like as friend start to like you...do you have to stop kigginit with this friend? especially if you and your partner are aware of their intentions.... because from experience, that's when i notice that either friendships go downhill...or the relationship will..
i've been confronted with this issue before. having a good guy friend who i was comfortable hanging out with, starting to like me.. now once the cat is out the bag, and all parties are aware of the situation, in a sense, i feel it would be wrong for me to continue hanging out with my friend (in small groups or just the two of us at least) anymore because (a) it seems like a situation that would send the wrong message to him/my friends/on-lookers, (b) lead him on, (c) at times maybe even make us both uncomfortable and (d) even though i trust myself to be faithful, i'd hate to put my boyfriend in that situation of knowing i was hanging out with a guy who liked me..especially because i'd hate to be put in that position myself...i dont want to be a hypocrite. but what about the friendship? is it secondary now? because i've always tried to not be the type to let my relationship take precedence over friendships...
this is kind of where the issue for me comes into play: as a girlfriend, i personally, don't feel it's my place to tell my man to stop hanging out or talking to their friend. (but from experience, sometimes if you don't set the record straight, youre putting yourself through more stress & agony than it would ever be worth...and then you might realize that you should have just said something and you wouldnt be in the mess youre in now..)
so over time,
i've developed this philosophy with my relationships (not that i'm a pro, but it's the standards by which i love). IF i put the information out there for you, that i am uncomfortable with a situation you put me in, it is ultimately up to you to continue doing what you're doing or change it, because i have done my part. either way, i am not trying to influence, dictate, pressure or force your decision, because ultimately the decision you make, gives me insight into your character..not saying that every time i complain, the "right thing to do" would be to "change," but it will tell me what situations/people/habits you feel are of enough importance (or not) to sacrifice it(or not). and of course, the same goes for him to me.
so after all is said and done,
i seem to always end up with guys that alllllll the ladies love ... "ladies men."

what do you do when
you have a friend you like,
who likes you as more than a friend?
you have a friend you like,
who likes you as more than a friend?
Sunday, June 7
sure, why not?
i know i'm definitely guilty of it.
always trying to find a way to understand someone or something
so my life, our life, could be so much simpler..happier..better...
well, today i realized the simplest way to live is to stop trying understand everything and just let it happen. this is one instance where i'm truly okay on "giving up." somethings just are not for me to understand.
you can't force someone to be a certain way simply because it's a way you'll be able to make sense of. people do things for reasons we will never ever...ever comprehend. they may not even know why
you just have to let it be. let them be.
i've said it before i'll say it again.
ignorance is bliss.

"an enticing source of wonder, inspiration and antioxidants" ...i'm sold!
Hi Blog,
first things first, you need a name. i'll work on that. But that's not the reason i'm here. i wanted to talk about the 'new' thing i tried today. you see, i'm working on not being so afraid to be afraid. so i'm trying new things, hence my decision to go to Barcelona - only good things can come from that experience right? i mean, what's meant to be will be, yeah? everything happens for a reason. anyway, my new thing today was this TAZO
bramlkajsdkajd-berry tea (aka Brambleberry). it's an 'herbal fusion' (<--which always sounds delicious; 'fusion' mmmm) with apple and marionberry juices. now, i dont know what marionberry juices are, but the drink is purple. so i figured, it must taste good, and i like berries, so what the heck. so i bought it, and it was rather expensive, but it wasn't real money, it was just 'points' so i went with my gut and got it. now i'm enjoying it as i'm writing my paper...well...i was writing my paper, now i'm blogging to you, but you get the point. i say all of this to say: it's good. it tastes like an applegrapecranberrypomegranate type drink. no complaints. it's also one of those drinks that tastes like it's healthy. figured i'd switch it up a bit since i've been semi-addicted to the white mocha latte's, half splenda'd & whipped creamed.
oh, the best part! it has "did you know facts" on it. and i love learning something new while trying something new. a win-win-win
it's like healthy + learning + yum = 1 happy camper.
..ok, so the fact was bogus. but admit you were excited to read it.
this drink is caffine free, so i must use what energy i have left and put it to good use on this paper.

i've been having this craving of wanting to go to Atlanta lately.
i feel like when i visit my trip is going to go like this:
i'm going to have like 3 huge bags and not be able to carry them all once i get them from baggage claim. i get all tangled up and trip up a little bit (a cute classy trip)
BUT OH WAIT,
someone catches my fall. but not just anyone. no, the man of my dreams...with his amazing arms and beautiful eyes. i'm so dumbfounded that i'm at a loss for words. i look lame, but he doesnt care. he offers me a ride to my destination and stop to get a bite to eat. he's so sweet and perfect and respectful and polite and handsome and charming and nice and amazing..and then 29 months later i'm walking down the aisle to meet him at the alter.
THE END.
and if he happens to look like TI, then so be it.

taking a study break; got a few things on my mind.
1. miley cyrus just announced her dates for her now tour - unfortunately for me, they're all in America while i'm in Spain. the tour ends two weeks prior to my return. :(
2. i think i'm addicted to white mocha lattes ...they're delicious. i'm pretty sure they've become my candy substitute and i like it even better because it gives me that extra push when i cant seem to motivate myself.
3. i can't wait to go swimming in my pool. i think i'll have a pool party soon. just like old times. haayyy
4. i wish i had a puppy right now. i miss my dog.
5. i'm getting really sad at the fact that i won't be at my school for 6 consecutive months. this is literally my home away from home, but more importantly it's like the elongated vacation i need after living in small ass los angeles for so long. I wonder what Spain will be like for me. i guess there's only one way to find out. - speaking of which. i've decided to spend my weekends visiting the following places: France, Morocco, Greece, London (and if money permits/still up in the air Italy and Switzerland)...oh and of course, touring the rest of Spain. but those for sure. i'm trying to fill the rest of my passport UP.
6. i'm tired and i'm so ready for some down time :)
'til then...time to kick school's ass.

RIP chivalry..
let me preface this by saying, in no way am i against interracial dating, this is just always an interesting topic...
so i go to a predominately white school..i believe the statistic is like 3% African American. it's rare to find a black couple on this campus of mine, but most of us just accept that this is the reality and keep it pushin - the diversity of the bay area picks up where we slack...
today i was having a discussion, with both black males and female students at my school, and it got a little intense when the question was brought up of "why do you black guys always seem to be dating outside of your race?" from personal experience, i've learned to not ask that question a while back lol. of course the friendly drama broke out about how black girls are difficult to approach, mean, stuck up, etc. (so they just get it where they can) ...whatever.
unfortunately ive noticed my black generation is stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to this dating game. young men find themselves so caught up in a society, where not trying is what's cool, that they get turned off by females who don't respond to the simplest of efforts, and lines like "i see you shakin that, ma, you aint gon say hi?" (i got that one today..)..ok, firstly, you have two tears tattooed on your check, why would i approach you? isn't that supposed to mean youre some sort of threat? not to mention youre not swimming, but drowning in your clothes. and lastly, how am i supposed to respond to that? "oh, haha, yeeeah, you like that, daddy? yeah...i be shakin it sometimes..." yeah, umm no. i instead put some subtle pep in my step and scurry away, acting like i didn't hear you...i apologize for for being 'mean' ?
anyway.
with the role models men look up to nowadays, the whole message they aim to personify is that they don't try hard. things come to them with ease and idle time is a trait of success. dudes are getting so caught up in trying to be too cool for school all the damn time, that they stop putting forth effort into....well shit, anything. and especially not when it comes to dating - and that's probably the most disappointing thing about it all. instead of approaching females in a respectful manner, dudes are posted on the wall, sunglass on, brim low, holding the crotch of their pants, tugging at girls as they walk by or barking a simple "ay, ma!" ....THE F*CK I LOOK LIKE?! PLEASE NOTE: that is not ok..and definitely not attractive. not only does it make me want to not give you my time, it makes me want to steer as clear from you as possible. if you want my time you need to show me you may be worth it, because i can tell a lot about a man by the way he carries himself, and you, my man, are not sending the right messages. men need to get in touch with their roots, and remember what all women have to offer..specifically, but not exclusive to, black women..and then maybe they'll realize why their ways aren't attracting the attention they want. please. we're not being 'mean', we're being selective. and a man with dignity and poise is what grabs my attention. where are all the Morehouse men?? but even still, the part that puzzles me is why aren't dudes presenting themselves as so? what's wrong with dressing nicely, speaking well, being polite? why is that not something people are eager to display in themselves, something to be proud of? why must you come in late, sit in the back of every room, not paying attention and make foolish remarks to present the attitude that you don't care? what's wrong with acting like you care? you hear women complain about it all the time..but then you wonder why you're not attracting 'wifey material?' hmm....
but you know what, as much as i want to attribute this dating fail only to the dudes, it's the ladies too. my black male friend spoke on this today: "
the sad part, to me at least, is that this disrespect is what our young ladies are used to. no longer do ladies even get the decency of honest conversation let alone respect from our young men. yes, women like attention, but the only way they can be expected to get that is if they dress a certain way (i need not get into detail about that one) or if they're able to shake their ass in a way that gets guys aroused at jump. why do we have to stoop that low? why is it that that's the approach we take to attract a guy's attention? young ladies find themselves settling for men who are doing nothing with their lives, don't treat them with the respect women deserve, or are just straight up jokes - a man should not approach you and ask you for your aim. -- but hey, as long as theyre getting attention, that's all women ask for now-a-days. *smh* they grow up with the mindset that 'good men' are hard to come by and end up settling for less. yes statistics of black men in college and earning degrees are decreasing, but it doesnt mean all black men are not making something of themselves. ladies should not be giving up, or even further, lowering their own personal standards for how they present themselves. get a man you deserve, period.
on the other side of things. there are women who have simply grown accustomed to the fact that they shouldn't expect much of black men today. which can be good and bad. of course, on one hand it breeds independent women, who don't even think to ask for a man for help, but when women carry this mindset into the dating scene, we settle for guys who do not treat us like the queens we are. picking up heavy stuff, helping around the house, or just doing things that they see need to be done instead of assuming that the woman will do it.
My dad always told his friends that he wanted me to marry a guy that had three qualities:
1. he loves & respects his mother, sister, grandmother etc.
2. he opens my door
3. he shines his shoes
..i wonder how many of you were caught off guard by the last one. let me explain. a man who loves and respects the women who raised him, knows nothing less than to respect, love all women in his life. secondly, a man who opens my door is familiar with the ways of chivalry and etiquette, he is well mannered and polite - always a great quality. lastly, a man who shines his shoes is a man who cares about his appearance. shining your shoes is not something many people do, so someone who does, is someone who goes that extra mile to present themselves well. now, while this may be fairly old school and southern (both of which my dad are), it's a good basis to finding a 'good man' ...a southern gentleman. that my friends, is my ideal kind of man.
now,
i don't expect a man to pay for everything, or buy me gifts all the time, or give me constant attention. i just ask for respect, and with that comes everything beautiful that relationships have to offer. if women learn to respect men and men learn to respect women - no matter the age or race, people will be able to stop 'settling' for less and find more happiness in coming together.
don't get me wrong, ladies, fellas, don't take yourselves too seriously ;)

the women that raised me really influenced how i view women. They taught me to respect, love and cherish them . unfortunately, the women I view today are overwhelmingly nothing like the women that raised me.
